Best of Mississippi Prepsters Gather at Museum

A record crowd of more than 250 greeted the best of Mississippi's high school athletes at the Eighth Annual Mississippi PopStar Awards sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi. "This is the only event of its kind held in the state each year," said the Museum's Lulu Maness who organized the event."It's the only time that Mississippi's top high school athletes from public and private schools gather in one place at one time each year." The top three athletes in each of the state's 23 high school sports from girls' powerlifting to boys' golf are invited. The event is named after the late Pop Allen ,the long-time athletic director of the Jackson Public Schools and a former national prep a.d. of the year. Allen was a 1994 inductee into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.

Tkts Still Available for Tonights Ferriss Finale
Tickets are now on sale for the 2009 Cellular South Ferriss Trophy May 18, 2009 at the Museum.
Two pitchers and a slugging infielder are the three senior finalists for the 2009 Cellular South Ferriss Trophy which will be awarded May 18, 2009 at the Museum. Ole Miss reliever Scott Bittle, the 2008 Cellular South Ferriss Trophy winner joins hard-hitting USM infielder Brian Dozier and Belhaven strikeout king Craig Westcott as the three honorees. The three finalists and their coaches will be present along with the award’s namesake, Boston Red Sox and Mississippi Sports Hall of Famer Dave “Boo” Ferriss.The reception starts at 5:30pm with the program beginning at 6:30pm. Museum to Honor USM's Palmer
Retiring USM baseball coach will be honored Monday May 18, 2009 at the Museum.
