Leroy Taylor "L.T." Smith , who guided Lanier High
L.T. Smith: 1918-2002
School to national prominence prior to integration in Mississippi, died October 2, 2002 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Jackson, MS. He was 84. Services were held Monday October 7 ,2002 at Central United Methodist Church on Farish Street.

Former Jackson Senators Skipper Dies at 96
Former Jackson Senators manager Willis Hudlin
Willis Hudlin , who managed and briefly owned the Jackson Senators minor league franchise in the late 1940's and early 1950's, died August 5, 2002 in Little Rock, AR. He was 96. Hudlin spent 18 years as a pitcher in the major leagues, posting a 158-156 record with four teams. He served as a pitching coach with the Detroit Tigers and as a scout for the New York Yankees until his retirement from the game at the age of 70.

Doug Elmore
The late 1950's and early 1960's were the salad days of Ole Miss football and quarterback Doug Elmore was one of the main reasons why. He died June 28, 2002 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
