Three Mississippi Olympians to Dedicate New Exhibit

A new exhibit featuring uniforms worn by Mississippians
This uniform that Ralph Boston wore when he won the silver medal in 1964 will be on display at the Museum beginning August 10, 2002.
in past Olympiads from the 1950’s thru the 1990’s will be dedicated Saturday August 10, 2002 at 2:00 pm at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.

will be on hand to greet the public. Long jumper Larry Myricks of Jackson, MS, who won a bronze medal in the 1988 games in Seoul, South Korea, will be present. He will be joined by Tom Black of Greenwood, MS who played on the U.S. Services Baseball Team in the 1956 games in Melbourne, Australia.

Other uniforms on display include the track singlet and shorts Ralph Boston wore in winning his silver medal in 1964 in Tokyo, Japan. Willye White’s track uniform from the last of her record five Olympic appearances in 1972 in Munich, Germany and Ron Polk’s Team USA baseball jersey from the 1996 games in Atlanta, GA.

The exhibit dedication is part of the third annual Pizza Hut Family Weekend Celebration August 10-11, 2002. The Museum offers deeply discounted admissions and a rare Sunday opening as part of its annual thank you to the public.All proceeds benefit the Museum.

"Back to school is an expensive time of the year for many Mississippi families," said Museum Executive DirectorMichael Rubenstein. "This is the Museum's way of saying 'Thanks' while offering the public an affordable family weekend activity."

Special Museum hours will be 10am-4m Saturday and 1pm-5pm Sunday. Admission is $3 person with children under 6 free. Drawings for gifts from Wendy’s, Office Depot and Northpark Mall will be held at 5pm Sunday. MPACT, the Mississippi pre-paid college tuition program, will staff an information booth for families wanting to learn about financially preparing for their child's college education.
