From MSFame.com Special Events The weather couldn't have been better and the score
Amidst sunny skies and gentle breezes, inductee Billy Stacy's team narrowly claimed a scorecard playoff victory over Kayo Dottley's team with an 18 under par score of 54. Former Alabama and NFL coach Ray Perkins captained the third place finisher at 57. An Ole Miss team with Rebel athletic director Pete Boone and former state legislator Charlie Williams posted the best overall net score with a score of 42.2. "We couldn't have asked for a more beautful day," said Jan Gwin of Morgan-Keegan, a co-sponsor of the event along with Hollywood Casino. "It was a great turnout and there is no reason why this tournament can't get bigger and better." Among other golfers playing were Archie Manning, D.D. Lewis, Joe Lee Dunn, Kent Hull, Dave Whitney, Jake Gibbs, Don Kessinger and Bailey Howell. The two earlier tournaments were held at the Vicksburg (MS) Country Club and the Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, MS. © Copyright 2001-2002 by Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame Museum |
