State's Top Basketball Player to Be Named March 27

Tickets are now on sale for the 2006 Cellular South Howell Trophy ,which will take place at the Museum on Monday March 27, 2006. The trophy is presented annually to Mississippi's best men's basketball player as determined by media voters throughout Mississippi.

Delta State and Mississippi College have made the NCAA Divsion II and III fields respectively but its been a struggle for the state's other programs.
None of Mississippi's six Division I basketball teams currently has a winning record.
Bailey Howell was a two-time All-American at Mississippi State.

The Cellular South Howell Trophy is named after Bailey Howell, a former Mississippi State All-American and six-time NBA All-Star who played on back-to-back Boston Celtic championship teams in 1968 and 1969. In 1997 he became the first male Mississippi player inducted in the National Basketball Hall of Fame.
