From MSFame.com Announcements The Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum has been named one of 110 national recipients of (CAP) grant funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services in
The grant will help the Museum establish conservation goals that will ensure that the Museum's exhibits are protected and available to the public for years to come. "We're delighted," said Museum Executive Director Michael Rubenstein . "We want the public to know that we are serious about protecting and promoting our state's rich sports heritage for years to come." The $4520 grant allows the Museum to bring in an approveded assessor for a site visit to examine all aspects of its collection and to make suggestions as to how care of artifacts and exhibits can be strengthened. The site visit is currently slated for August, 2003. IMLS Director Robert S.Martin said "Through its conservation grants,IMLS has helped transform conservation practices around the nation." "We experienced premature yellowing in some of the replicated photographs that have been on display in the Museum since it opened," said Rubenstein."We want to determine what or who was reponsible for the yellowing and what can be done to prevent it in the future." Rubenstein stressed that no original items had been effected. The Museum, which is a member of the Southeastern Museums Conference and the International Association of Sports Halls of Fame and Museums, will be seven years old on July 4, 2003. © Copyright 2001-2002 by Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame Museum |
