JSU's Gorden Named to College Hall of Fame
Jackson State's W.C. Gorden is the winningest football coach in Jackson State history.
W.C. Gorden, the most succesful coach in Jackson State's rich football history, will be enshrined the College Football Hall of Fame July 18-19, 2008 in South Bend, Indiana.

Ironically, the announcement of Gorden's selection was made by his fellow Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame inductee Archie Manning, who currently serves as president of the National Football Foundation.

Gorden spent 27 years at Jackson State as an assistant coach, head coach and athletic director following high school coaching stops at Magnola, MS and Vicksburg, MS.

JSU dominated the SWAC during part of Gorden's head coaching tenure (1976-1991). He won 114 games, the most in school history and, at one point, won 28 consecutive conference games in the mid-80's.

THe Nashville, TN native was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 1997 and the SWAC Hall of Fame in 2004.

Showalter to Present Museum Baseball Award
Former MSU All-American Buck Showalter has managed the Yankees, Rangers and Diamondbacks. He will speak at the Museum May 19, 2008.
Former New York Yankees’ manager and Mississippi State All-American Buck Showalter will present the 2008 Cellular South Ferriss Trophy to Mississippi’s top college baseball player on Monday May 19, 2008 at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum in Jackson, MS.

Tickets for the event can be reserved by calling the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame at 1-800-280-FAME (3263).

Showalter, a former two-time American League manager of the year with the Yankees (1994) and Texas (2004) was also the first manager in Arizona Diamondbacks history. He earned All-American honors at Mississippi State in 1977 after hitting .459, still the sixth best season batting performance in SEC history.. Since leaving the dugout, Showalter has also served and continues to serve as an analyst with ESPN.
