Black History Program a Success

The Mississippi School for the Deaf learned from some of Mississippi’s best at the Hall’s Black History program. Legendary Ralph Boston, Peggie Gillom, Walter Reed, W.C. Gorden and Willie Richardson spoke to the sixty students about their careers, their obstacles and their successes. Students also engaged in a scavenger hunt for facts on African American Hall of Famers, and enjoyed some interactive sports activities. “It was a wonderful experience for our students,“ said Lynn Nassar, a speech pathologist at the school.

High School Hoops Heaven Opens Friday
The best in Mississippi prep basketball opens this week at the Mississippi Coliseum in downtown Jackson, MS when the MHSAA/Cellular South State Basketball Championships tip off Friday morning February 26,2010. All the boys and girl state champions in the six classes will be determined by Saturday March 6, 2010. The top four teams of both genders in each classification qualify for the state tournament.

Nutt Addresses Rebel Jocks

With two Cotton Bowl victories in two years under his belt, Ole Miss head football coach Houston Nutt spoke to members of the university's M-Club Monday February 15, 2010 in the Museum's Trustmark Conference Center.
Nutt assessed the Rebels' recent signing day class as well as the team's 2010 prospects for approximately 150 former Ole Miss letter winners.

Norwood Headlines Museum Black History Program

| Atlanta Falcons running back, Jerious Norwood, will appear at the Museum's annual Black History program. |
Over ten athletes, including Jerious Norwood, running back for the Atlanta Falcons, will attend the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum's Black History Month program on Feb 25-26, 2010.

The programs will be offered at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on both days at $3.00 per person. Availability is limited.

Craftsman's Guild, Museum Go to Pot

Some of the top names in Mississippi sports will try their hands at the pottery wheel at the Mississippi Crafts Center Thursday February 25, 2010.
Current JSU head football coach Rick Comegy ; Viking Classic tournament director Randy Watkins ; current Cincinnati Reds broadcaster and 15-season MLB veteran Jeff Brantley ; seven-time NFL All-Pro Ray Guy ; and, MSHOF executive director Michael Rubenstein will all work the pottery wheel to produce a piece that will then go up for auction.
For ticket information, contact the Mississippi Crafts Center at 601-856-7546. The Mississippi Crafts Center is located at 950 Rice Road in Ridgeland, MS. The event begins at 5pm.
