State's Top Basketball Player to Be Named March 27

Tickets are now on sale for the 2006 Cellular South Howell Trophy ,which will take place at the Museum on Monday March 27, 2006. The trophy is presented annually to Mississippi's best men's basketball player as determined by media voters throughout Mississippi.
Tickets for the Cellular South Howell Trophy can be purchased in person at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum located at 1152 Lakeland Drive in Jackson, MS or over the phone using Visa or Mastercard by dialing 1-800-280-FAME (3263).

MSU Team Wins Benefit Golf Tournament

MSU assistant football coach Curly Hallman , a last-minute replacement for head coach Jackie Sherrill, made the most of his unexpected opportunity and captained his team to victory in the BancorpSouth Celebrity Golf Tournament benefitting the Museum at the Dancing Rabbit Golf Club in Philadelphia, MS on April 28,2003.
Hallman's 6-man team, which included Museum board member Chris Correro, carded an 18-under par 44 in the best ball format. Teams headed by Hall of Famers Dave Whitney and Ray Poole tied for second at 46.

New Sports Med Exhibit Nears Completion
Hattiesburg, MS contractor John Adams helps with the carpentry work on the new Advances in Sports Medicine exhibit at the Museum, which is sponsored by Mississippi Methodist Rehabilitation Center.
The exhibit will allow visitors,among other things, to actually perform arthroscopic surgery on a dummy knee, test improvements in football helmet design and access a variety of information on a 42" touchscreen located in the center of the exhibit.
"We were trying to accomplish something fun for the kids in an interactive display while making it visually interesting," said Jeremy Smith , a designer with Rare Design of Hattiesburg, MS, the exhibit's creator.
The exhibit is expected to open later this spring.
