last pitch for the Red Sox, but he was elated to gain the honor of entering the team's Hall of Fame in ceremonies at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, MA Thursday November 14, 2002.

"It's just tremendous," said Ferriss, who went 25-6 for the Sox in 1946. "The Red Sox have certainly been an important part of my life. They've enriched my life. This is a very special moment in my life and I'm thankful."

His career, unfortunately, ended at the age of 28 because of arm problems that probably could have been cured in today's advanced world of medical science.

Ferriss was inducted along with former Red Sox teammate Tex Hughson.Another pair of team mates, Fred Lynn and Rick Burleson, was also honored. Also enshrined was a third right-handed pitcher, Jim Lonborg, as well as outfielder Duffy Lewis. Lefty Grove, already in the Baseball Hall of Fame, was also formally inducted as was former CEO John Harrington.

Following his Major League career, the Shaw, MS native returned to his Delta roots, assuming the head coach's reins at Delta State University where he coached for 27 seasons. The field at DSU bears his name.

Boo Ferriss is a 1964 inductee into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.
