Delta State University Alumni Recognize Champions

out for their annual Jackson meeting at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum on August 1, 2002. Cheerleaders from DSU's six national championship squads were recognized as well as NCAA National Championship swimmer, Justin Whitaker. Pictures were unveiled on the Museum's championship wall.

"We are so appreciative of the relationship that DSU has had with the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum and the opportunity to display our athletes who have achieved national recognition is just an added plus for us, " said Don Skelton,Executive Director of the Delta State University Foundation.

Ted Poore, Jackson alumni president, was pleased with the 175 plus turnout. "The Museum is the perfect place for DSU alumni to meet, especially leading into the fall football season," said Poore. "We certainly hope Delta State will continue its trend of national championships so the Jackson alumni can continue to recognize these student-athletes'accomplishemnts."

Recognized were the Division II National Championship cheerleading squads from 1992, '96, '97, '98, '99, '00 and Justin Whitacker who won the 100 yard backstroke in the Division II National Championships in 2002 in Orlando, Florida.
