| Atlanta Falcons running back, Jerious Norwood, will appear at the Museum's annual Black History program. |
On February 25 and 26, the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum will celebrate Black History Month with professional athletes and students from the Jackson area.
Students will have the opportunity to meet and hear from current and former African-American professional athletes and administrators about their careers and the obstacles they faced on their way to success. Interactive exhibits and a scavenger hunt on black athletes will serve as both entertainment and education for the students.
Over ten athletes, including Ralph Boston, a three-time Olympic medal winner, Peggie Gillom, the all-time leading scorer for Ole Miss Basketball and Coach Rick Comegy, Jackson State University’s Head Football Coach, will attend over the two-day celebration.
Jerious Norwood, a current running back for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League (NFL), will also be present on February 26. Norwood, a native of Jackson, Mississippi, attended Brandon High School where he was a high school All-American, setting numerous records and earning awards such as Mississippi’s Gatorade Player of the Year. He attended Mississippi State University where he continued to break school records in rushing yards and as a senior, received the Cellular South Conerly Award, given to the top college player in the state of Mississippi. In 2006, Norwood was drafted in the third round of the NFL Draft to the Atlanta Falcons. Despite suffering a recent knee injury, Norwood remains a powerful weapon for the Falcon’s offense.
