Tkts Still Available for Tonights Ferriss Finale

Tickets are now on sale for the 2009 Cellular South Ferriss Trophy May 18, 2009 at the Museum.
A familiar name and two new ones are the three senior finalists for the 2009 Cellular South Ferriss Trophy which is awarded annually to Mississippi’s top college baseball player as determined by Major League Scouts, college coaches and a media representative.

The recipient of the 2009 award will be announced at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum Monday May 18, 2009.

Listed alphabetically with the most recent statistics available, the three finalists are:

SCOTT BITTLE RHP Ole Miss SR Texarkana, TX (68K’s in 45.2 innings); 5-2 record with 3 saves and 2.17 ERA; opponents hitting .175 against him; recipient of 2008 Cellular South Ferriss Trophy.

BRIAN DOZIER IF USM SR Fulton, MS Led team in hitting with .394 batting average and doubles with 13; 39 RBI’s; started all 35 games in which he played; .591 slugging percentage; struck out only 15 times in 137 plate appearances

CRAIG WESTCOTT P Belhaven SR Chalmette, LA; school career strikeout record holder with 121; record 11-3 with 7 complete games and 5 shutouts; only 23 walks in 86 innings for Blazers’ team that is competing in NAIA National Playoffs

The three finalists and their coaches will be present along with the award’s namesake, Boston Red Sox and Mississippi Sports Hall of Famer Dave “Boo” Ferriss.
