Second-year Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt has been added to the field of the 17th Annual First Commercial Bank/ Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame Celebrity Scramble, bringing to four the number of current college head football coaches participating in the event.
Nutt joins head coaches Dan Mullen from MSU, Mississippi Valley's Willie Totten and Mike Dubose of Millsaps. Former head coaches participating are USM's Jeff Bower and Jim Carmody;and,former Alabama and NFL head coach Ray Perkins.
Among the celebrity players are Ray Guy, Kent Hull, Gentle Ben Williams, Warner Alford ; and, Don Kessinger. MSU athletic director Greg Byrne was scheduled to play but dropped out to attend the funeral of his father-in-law in Oregon. "We'll have 25 teams" said Museum staffer Margaret Ferriss White who organizes the annual event. DiamondJack's Casino of Vicksburg, MS has been a major sponsor for the past four years.
The tournament is Monday April 20, 2009 at the Reunion Golf & Country Club in Madison, MS. Lunch is sponsored by Phoenix Development with the post-tournament meal provided and sponsored by Outback Steakhouse and Morgan Stanley.
