Through April 30, 2002, you can view 17 winning posters from the Design for Good Health Art Contest in the main display area of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.

Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi began the
art contest 24 years ago to increase student awareness of good health habits. The 2002 contest theme – “Discover the Secrets of the Pyramid” -- inspired more than 5,300 entries from 253 schools. Students across the state creatively conveyed the importance of the food guide pyramid with such messages as: “Wouldn’t the world be groovy with more peas and hominy?”

“The Museum has been delighted to host the Design for Good Health Art Contest since 1997,’ said Museum Executive Director Michael Rubenstein. “Anyone who thinks that the entries are just going to be stick figures on poster paper is in for a pleasant surprise,” said Rubenstein. “The creative future of Mississippi appears to be in very good hands.”

At an awards luncheon at the Museum on April 11, 2002, winning students in grades 1-12 were presented a total of $2,900 in cash scholarships and their teachers received gift certificates for classroom supplies.
