Bobby Brown spent eight years as a Yankees' infielder

Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum in Jackson, MS.

Dr. Brown, a noted cardiologist, received his medical degree in 1950 from Tulane University during the middle of his eight-year stint with the Yankees (1946-1954). He played in four World Series compiling a career .439 batting average in the Fall Classic. His 1952 season was interrupted when he was called to serve with an Army field surgical unit in the Korean War.

Among the many accomplishments of his decade-long tenure as president of the American League (1984-1994) was the ban on smokeless tobacco use in the minor leagues.

Along with Dr. Brown, long-time Delta State head coach Dave “Boo” Ferriss, the namesake of the award and a member of the Boston Red Sox and Mississippi Sports Halls of Fame, will be present at the event along with the three finalists for the honor. The Ferriss Trophy recipient is determined by college coaches, Major League scouts and media representatives.
