Oldest Board Member Marble Retires

The Museum's board honored retiring long-time member Roland Marble at a reception February 8, 2010 at the Museum. Marble had served as the board's secretary for more than 12 years.
"It's been a privilege," said the 89-year old Marble, whose late wife Virginia was the first female member of the Museum's 200 Club support group.
Marble, an attorney who practiced law for more than 50 years, told the group when announcing his resignation that the Museum "was the last thing I'm giving up."
The board responded by naming Marble the first Director Emeritus in its 17-year history.

FINALLY! With the help of long-time supporter Trustmark Bank , The Museum now has signage on busy Lakeland Drive.
"We're delighted," said Museum Executive Director Michael Rubenstein. "The Museum is approaching its fourteenth birthday so its about time."
"The Museum is in an excellent location but its off the street," said Rubenstein. "This should help a lot."

Basketball Legend Ricks Dead at 89

Basketball playing and coaching legend Troy Ricks died January 13, 2010 from lung disease just 10 days short of his 90th birthday.
Ricks was a prep star at basketball hotbed Wheeler High School in the 1930's and was twice named the state JUCO MVP at Sunflower Junior College and was also a two-time All-American at Delta State in 1940 and 1941.
Ricks was a highly successful coach in both the high school and junior college ranks from 1946-1970, winning numerous state titles at both levels.
Visitation for the 2007 MSHOF inductee was January 16, 2010 from 5:00pm-9:00pm at the Raymond, MS Baptist Church. Visitation resumed on Sunday at 1:00pm prior to the service at 2:00pm.
